If you decide to enroll, you will have access to a variety of practical worksheets (in PDF format) that you can print and use to record new information as you read.  You will also be able to request any of these worksheets in the Microsoft Word format - in case you want to re-configure the tables to match your personal preferences.

Linear Format

Purpose:

This format is a classic.  It is ideal for scientific and chronological information (i.e. History) since you are not limited by space; in addition, this format allows you to store data in an organized, and sequential, manner.

Global Format

Purpose:

This format will help you record your information in a less formal manner - but still provide the type of structure necessary to keep you focused while reading.  Because global thinkers like to consider the "big picture", the "Critical" section of each table will help you record your thoughts and opinions (for a broader perspective on the material).

Q & A Format

Purpose:

This format will help any type of thinker.  Developing questions during the survey process supercharges the brain - and will encourage you to "search for information" instead of reading on auto-pilot (i.e. reading an entire page and immediately forgetting what you just read).

Summary Format

Purpose:

This format will help both thinking types, but global thinkers tend to like it more (due to the minimal structure).  This format is also beneficial when reading highly complex material.  By writing a short mini-summary after reading each Main Point, you will re-structure the writer's words into your own - thus improving your comprehension and retention.  This process also makes it easier to review the material later.

Visual
Format

Purpose:

This format provides a clear visual representation of all your information. It does require you to re-structure the information (to fit within the tight confines of the tables); but, it serves as an excellent reference chart to use when reviewing information (for meetings or tests) - students like to recreate this diagram at the beginning of an essay exam to use a reference, working adults like to use this one-page diagram as a tool for presenting meetings or providing instructions to team members.

The Reading Process

Purpose:

This comprehensive checklist will ensure you remain focused on the key information, and allow for fast and accurate review of everything you read.
